Go Safe with Ziggy
Go Safe with Ziggy helps equip children with the skills, knowledge and attitudes that will help keep them stay safe now and in later life.
About the Go Safe with Ziggy approach
Go Safe with Ziggy sets young children up with skills they’ll use for life. The stories, activities, ideas and games are all fun, easy and engaging. The approach has been designed to help form positive attitudes and good habits from a young age.
Both the online materials encourage real-life learning through stories and play bringing the main themes to life and naturally linking across many areas of Scotland’s Curriculum Framework.
Skills that last a lifetime
Road safety lessons might start with a story or a game but the real learning will come from the interactions and experiences children have in a variety of spaces. We suggest using the stories to start the learning journey, then exploring the key themes through play.
This resource has been developed alongside:
- Scottish Government’s policy on early intervention, Scotland’s Curriculum Framework, and Scotland’s National Practice Guidance for Early Years – Realising the Ambition: Being Me which encourages real life and multimedia interactions and experiences at home, early years settings, school and community spaces
- The ambition to target three key age groups: 0-3, pre-school, and the transition into primary 1
- Home learning as part of the early level curriculum through Early Learning and Childcare settings and primary 1 classes
- The aspiration to encourage and inspire young children (and the adults around them) to go on their own road safety journey through real experiences alongside Ziggy and playing, talking, and reading together
